The Institute
Marc Chagall Jewish Cultural Institute was founded in 1985, and is dedicated to preserve and disseminate Jewish history and culture in southern Brazil, especially in Rio Grande do Sul. The Institute was created as a space for memory and culture, it safeguards stories, traditions, and trajectories that help to understand Jewish immigration and its legacy in Brazilian society.
The Collection
The Institute Collection includes over 570 interviews with immigrants and their descendants, 45,000 documents, photographs, audio and video recordings, and today it is a studies reference and source for researchers, descendants, teachers, students and other people interested in the history of immigration, the Holocaust and Jewish identity in southern Brazil and Latin America.
